How did Nightfall compare to the other two campaigns?
Now that it's been a solid month after release and it's almost safe to say that we've pushed through with at least one character, how did you find Nightfall to compare with the other two chapters?
I thought Nightfall had the best ending over all three campaigns. Amongst all three though, I think they all rank equally in their own ways. The replayabilty, to me, may not compare to Prophecies... I could play that over and over and over again
I think the farming for Nightfall was a bit ridiculous, I hardly ever got anything worth selling and keeping. Even when you killed level 24 and 28 mobs, they still dropped white weapons without max damage. I always go back to Factions or Prophecies for farming.
I'm trying to go through it with a new character, let's see how that goes..

The story in Nightfall was better than Factions I think. Prophecies is still probably my favorite of the three. NF is probably my least favorite even if the story is better than Factions.
Don't get me wrong, I think NF is a must have. And a bad day or a bad idea for Anet, is probably still better than anything the competition is giving us.
But NF feels like a chore. Having beat the game with my Ranger, 2 missions from beating with my Rit, and four from beating with my Dervish, I'll just say flat out, it is too much of a grind. I didn't feel that way with Factions.
Check that. The only time I felt like I was grinding in Factions was getting the Luxon or Kurz faction. I would get to that point in the game with all my toons and be like, "Crap. I have to go get 10,000 faction."
So in NF, I'm pretty much beginning the game thinking, "Crap, I have to go farm all that stupid Sunspear faction." It feels like a grind. I mean I really don't care about Koss' lost money. And I don't care if dude patches things up with his daughter. At least not by my third time through.
After you grind the Sunspear points, you start thinking, "Do I really want to grind out the Light Bringer points 8 more times?" The answer is a clear "No way." So I'm left with over a half dozen characters that I'm not willing to grind through point farming, simply because I don't want to grind anymore. I'd love to see them in the missions, I just get tired doing what it takes to get them there.
So NF for me falls below the other two chapters for this reason.

Prophecies > Factions > Nightfall IMO, because Nightfall's replay value is horrid and all the land looks the same.

Nightfall is very nice, and a good game. It's replayability is awful though.
I made a paragon, and immediately after leaving starter island I went to Tyria. More fun over there, and I've completed Prophecies dozens of times. It has better replayability.
Nightfall was great the first time through.

The scenery in nightfall felt repetative because of the landscaping, it was pretty much all the same (when I mean landscaping, I mean hills/rocks/cliffs. That's all it was, except with a variation of different color tones and a tree here and there). I remember when we first saw that map of Elona, the one where everyone was like "oh god, the areas don't match up, this map is a hoax".... it actually turned out to be the map :S.
'
Garden of Sebhorin wasn't breathtaking... it was nice looking, but Maguuma jubgle was breathtaking, and areas of Shing Jea were breathtaking.... Elona.... some areas were beautiful... but nothing like "omg... wooooow" beautiful.
Actually no, my favourite area was the last mission where you fight the last guy... looking at the stars and being all black... it was awesome.

Personaly, since I absolutely hate picking up groups, the hero's were outstanding. At least with my experience, since I owned prophecies and had plenty of skills (nearly all of them) unlocked for them to use.
Funny thing is, I was going to quit guild wars completely. Then, about a week and a half ago I saw this in the store and decided to come on back. (Oh how I love not having a monthly fee.)
Anyhow, If it wasn't for nightfall, I would probably have been away from guild wars for quite a while. And now that I'm playing again, I feel that I want to buy factions.
So, anyways... getting to the point; Hurray for nightfall!

Really? I enjoyed the landscape quite a bit. The starting island started out very jungle like then it moved on to a bog and then beaches with a caribbean feel. The mainland was a desert and quite impressive in my opinion when you first see the wide open area. After that you go through caves to reach the Vabbian lands which were highly decorated with golds, blues, red and whites.
Desolation comes next which is sort of a deserty almost volcanic area. This place got darker and greenish as you got into it until you reach the Realm of Torment which.. wow I don't even know how to describe it. Fleshy, industrial, dark, evil, celestial and very trippy. Lots of purple in it.
Overall I felt the landscape changed almost as much as the Prophecies landscape changed through the game. It was just that most of the Quests were in the desert area at the Command Post.

I don't get why so many people prefer Tyria. After all, 70% of the place is "run past" content where killing monsters lower level then you is pointless.
The whole place feels empty.Especially Maguuma, wich a large portion of the players totally skip.Prophecies is vanilla GW to me.

Before Nightfall, i barely had anything to do with GWguru. I was content to play and chat with my friends. Now I am so endlessly frustrated with the game, i spend more time on guru trying to have it fixed than i do actually playing. That's just wrong.
Story wise, i love the game. Heroes! What a great addition! The whole insignia thing is pretty darn cool. So yeah, i like the game and many of the introductions. But some of the fundamental changes in the behaviour of the supportive and enemy AI drives me up the freaking wall.
Here is the difference I see from my experience in chap 1/2 and chap 3.
WOOT: I beat the Lich. That was awesome. I feel such a sense of accomplishment.
WOOT: I beat Shiro. That was exhausting challange. I feel such a sense of accomplishment.
OMFG: I 've been hammered to death by another standard freaking mob. Am i ever going to get anywhere in this blessed game without 48dp? Somebody shoot me. End the freaking pain... What the hell do you mean I can't achieve max sunspear title until the update (correction: even after the update)!!! Ah, it's shiro AND the Lich... and no gifts from the K dragon. Oh, we're getting somewhere, we're getting somewhere, he's only got like 10 health left... OMG he wiped us all!!! How the hell did THAT happen? Well, back in we go. [bash bang crash curse swear]... Finally killed Shiro and Lich... and Abaddon ( he was actually pretty easy). Thank god that's over with. I never want to do that again... never... NEVER!!!
so to sum up:
Chapter one: challenging and rewarding.
Chapter two: challenging and rewarding.
Chapter three: much promise that lead to undless @#&^ frustration and rage.
I've already paid for the game, but A-Net can rest assured that I will not recommend any of the chapters until they make the game rewarding rather than punishing, challanging rather than frustrating. Maybe it's a fine line, but I can tell you you are well on the wrong side of it at present.

prophecy is still my favorite campaign....I dont care that the beasties are lower level for 2/3 of the game.....it was fun to beat them into the ground. (and they dropped pretty good loot---got 4 gold items in the last 2 days).....
factions and nightfall are in 3rd place---tied, I wont award a 2nd place.
factions was horrible in the slums and then repeative in the luxon/kurzick lands...the scenery was nice there (not the slums).....the timed missions just took the fun out of the game for me.
nightfall.....some nice scenery again, no slums (thanks to the 5 gods)....the missions arent timed (most), and the bonuses are different. The point system sucks and I just dont feel like playing it more than once, though I will just to get my characters thru it (may take me the whole next year, but I will keep plugging along....)
they all have good and bad points, prophecy was a great starting point, the pre-searing was a good intro to the game, it; however, also loses it re-playablity on me (just too long), factions starting isle is just the right length for the returning player, nightfall's is too long.
Factions felt rushed (could be those timed missions making me feel like I need to do everything else fast). Prophecy had nice quests and great rewards....the other 2 --well factions quests were horrible, nightfall quests just dont need to be repeated with other characters---once is plenty! and no good rewards either (I like getting skills, my canthan monk, rit and mes all went back to tyria just to get some free skills; my elonia ele probably will as well since there are now 264 skills for her to get---thats a lot of skill points to grind out). Nightfall just doesnt inspire me to complete it with more than one character, not completely sure why.
If I were to score them (1-10) I would give chapter 1 a 7, chapter 2 and 3 a 4.5, there indeed is room for improvement.

well i bought factions first which im glad i did. i enjoyed it alot. then i bought prophecies, and realized that if id had proph first my oppinion of factions woudl have been a lot less than it is since prophecies was so much better in everyway. bought CE of NF when it was released. i think im about halfway through it approx.(about 63% map uncovered is what im goin off of) from what ive played the story is interesting. i was playing through it till that green weekend and i havent made any progress since then. (havent even tried) been farming alot of greens and such. farmed up about 400k give or take some Ks. bought a couple 15k armors and some weapons for my canthan ele. havent finished it yet so im not sure where it stands yet but so far id have to say Prophecies>Factions>Nightfall. was dissapointed with the CE mini and the special dances, wish id bought Factions CE instead. cant comment on the replay value yet since havent completed.

Nightfall > Factions > Prophecies
got bored of Prophecies after 2 months after finishing it 8 times (2 accts)
Factions had less content but had more level 20 content than Prophecies
Nightfall I like the best
its less boring than Prophecies because it has more level 20 content
-- and heroes
edit, added what I posted in an older thread
------------------------------------------
1) Nightfall
- Heroes!!, many quests, most creative missions, tons of lvl 20 content, most consistent storyline
2) Factions
- Fastest levelling to 20, 8 classes, best armor system, skill capture bosses had static locations, shortest chapter but I played Factions much longer than Prophecies thanks to Fort Aspenwood
3) Prophecies
- best mission bonuses, only chapter where you can quest for skills, most variety for zone content, most creative story altho inconsistent, doesnt have as much content for lvl 20s - unless you like to farm

Storywise : Nightfall plot is an improvement in most aspects. The game is awesome the _first_ time through. Even though the ending is completely anti-climatic, with a "Better-leave-before-all-the-lights-go-down" feeling.
Replayability : Awful, NF is a pain to get through with different chars : the missions themselves aren't challenging, they take artificially longer, the last two areas are far from being appealing or exciting. The magic has been lost once you beat the game and NF starts to show its weaknesses : repetitive and poor sceneries, stretched rythm, ...
In comparison, Factions really shines : fun, short and action packed missions (bring back the dual-teams missions), _attractive_ landscapes.
You may be done (too) quickly with the game but at least it's still enjoyable to go through it over and over (missions like Vizunah, Raisu or Gyala Hatchery are adrenaline-fillling)
Heroes are handy, great and all but they are changing the way people play, even amongst guildies. I'm not sure things are taking a right turn for a multiplayer rpg...
So Factions, despite its obvious flaws, is better than NF imho.

I think alot of people say they like prophecies best and flame the new versions because they see it in the psychological aspect as when people look back on childhood. They expect to be blown away like its their first time experiancing the game. I like all the chapters and think that together they make a wonderful game.
